Sebastian

The King must die.

As I continue to pace back and forth, my anger simmers beneath the surface, fueled by the frustrating situation I’ve found myself in. Aria had seen me standing beside her father and she looked visibly angry and hurt. The pain in her eyes pierced through me and I longed to reach out, to comfort her, to explain the intricacies of the situation that had brought us to this point, but I remained silent. If only I could tell her the truth and make her understand that my loyalty is tied to her, not her father.

But with her father, I’m powerless. Just as Aria and her sisters are bound by a contract, I am entangled in its tight grasp. The weight of this obligation bears down on me, preventing me from breaking free and revealing the truth. I’m currently standing in the middle of the princess's room, seeking forgiveness, yet knowing that I can’t fully explain the depth of my loyalty to King Oceanus. There's a reason why I never dated or sought to marry and that was because King Oceanus wanted me to only have loyalties to him.

The door creaks open, and my breath catches in my throat as Aria enters the room. She’s a vision of beauty, and for a moment, the turmoil within me subsides. She hasn't noticed me yet, and I silently hope that when she does, she won't turn me away, because I won’t be able to let her go.

The room remains dimly lit, casting shadows across the space. Every space in this damn castle is barely lit. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise, as I won't have to witness the angry lines etching themselves onto her face as she inevitably yells at me for the betrayal.

As she draws closer, her eyes widen in surprise and she gasps softly. “Princess,” I address her, my voice cold and devoid of emotion, a stark contrast to the turmoil raging within me.

Her jaw clenches, a subtle sign of the internal battle she’s fighting. As the seconds tick by, silence hangs heavy in the room, broken only by the sound of our breathing.

“Sebastian.” The room's dim lighting seems to cast a shadow over Aria's face, emphasizing the mix of anger and pain etched into her features.

“Princess,” I say softly, taking a tentative step closer to her, but instead of meeting me halfway, Aria backs away almost like my mere presence had struck her, causing a pang to shoot through my heart. All the effort I’d put into gaining her trust seems to crumble in an instant, and now she regards me like I'm her enemy.

The sting of her reaction cuts deeper than anything I've ever experienced. It hurts to see her look at me with such mistrust, as if all the moments we've shared have been tarnished by me standing next to her father earlier. I reach out a hand, longing to close the gap between us, but quickly withdraw it.

“Why are you here, Sebastian?” she asks, her voice laced with harshness, yet a faint undercurrent of pain remains.
